Mayorkun was born on 23 March 1994 in Osun State, Nigeria. He is the first child of three, born into a family of entertainers. His mother is a Nollywood actress and his father, an artist and movie producer.

Mayorkun was part of the choir at a very young age where he, according to him, “learnt the rudiments of music”.

He later decided to leave his bank job to search for another due to bad pay, when his cover video was spotted by Davido in February 2016. Davido followed him on Twitter and Instagram, after which Davido asked him if he can do more than play the keyboard. He got a call from Davido the same day he wrote his resignation letter and sent Davido some of the songs he already recorded.

The ‘Mayor of Lagos’, recently throwed some pieces of advise on Nigerians, saying that they should enjoy their youth but save for retirement by working hard because if you want something, you have to work for it since there’s a higher chance to get something by work than getting it by chance.

Taking to his snap chat page, he wrote;

“Enjoy your youth but save for retirement. Your bad character will give you out eventually. Family can fuck you up. Friends are the worst. Get sense for Lagos,”

Mayorkun also advised on being bold, saying that you have to know your lane before a trailer uses you as a driving test

He wrote;

“You got something to say? Say it. Don’t hold it (not me though, I leave). Know your lane before trailer use you do driving test. People wen dey okay for my country nor many like that.”

Adding that, hard-work is to key to achieve greater heights, and that by hard-work you will have a better chance of succeeding

He wrote;

“If you want it, work for it. There’s a higher chance to get it by work than by luck. Don’t Indulge/tolerate whatever you don’t like on first instance. That’s the first door to see finish/disrespect.”

Mayorkun’s post simply advises individuals to be smart and careful with how they live their lives and work hard for whatever they want and make sure they enjoy their youths but not forget to save for retirement in the future.
